Likes
We appreciate any product that makes an effort to be highly functional and easy to use while still being good for your baby's health and the environment. The Boon Nursh does all of the above and more. The body of this bottle is silicone, and the plastic shell gives it more stability and increased protection from being squished, which are two areas the silicone competition struggled. The vacuum created by the collapsible silicone liner eliminates the need for a straw, valve, or vent but still keeps out any gas-producing air bubbles that cause little bellies to bloat. The wide nipple mound is designed to be breast-like, and even though the nipple is a bit stiffer than average, we think the design may help avoid nipple collapse, which is more common in a ventless system.
The Nursh has four parts (not counting the nipple cover), but for regular cleaning, there are only two, the liner and the nipple. The liner is flexible enough to turn it inside out if your hand is too large to fit inside. Overall, it's a breeze to clean, and even though the wide mouth opening is more manageable, a favorite baby bottle brush could help you scrub and thoroughly clean.
The Nursh has no plastic parts on the inside, and the silicone nipple seals with the silicone pouch, creating a silicone-only environment for your baby's milk. The liner is freezer safe and can be boiled, sterilized, and microwaved, allowing you to use it for breastmilk storage when used with a storage lid.
Dislikes
In a ventless system like this, we understand the silicone liner must be thin and pliable to collapse. However, this makes the silicone feel fragile and susceptible to tears. With everyday use, and the added protection of the plastic outer shell, this shouldn't be a big problem, but it is something to keep in mind when cleaning. The relatively inexpensive replacement pouches are available for purchase and may be a good idea to keep on hand. Also, the hard plastic shell keeps babies from feeling the breast-like silicone.
The volume markings on this bottle are shiny numbers etched into the matte background of the plastic shell that corresponds to lines on the silicone pouch. There is very little contrast, and the markings can be hard to read, especially when the bottle is full.
Should You Buy the Boon Nursh?
The collapsible liner of the Boon Nursh could be what your baby's belly needs if other anti-colic systems aren't cutting it. This bottle works for daily feeds at home, daycare, or on the road, thanks to its lightweight and durable design. Despite it taking away some breast-like qualities, we appreciate that the plastic shell provides better stability and protection. The bottle is easy to assemble and a snap to clean. Overall, we think there's a good chance you'll enjoy this bottle.
What Other Baby Bottles Should You Consider?
The Comotomo is another silicone baby bottle that scores higher than most of the competition. If you're looking for more breast-like qualities, the Comotomo is a compelling product. Many babies enjoy feeling and squeezing its soft, silicone body, which can remind them of their mom. Alternatively, glass is more eco-friendly, and the NUK Simply Natural Glass is an impressive reliable glass bottle.
